The UBA is offered for doctorate study in Universiti Brunei Darussalam
(UBD).

Application
Applicants are required to submit their completed applications prior to the designated closing date. The application for the UBA is considered upon acceptance for admission to the doctorate programme applied for.
Facilities and Payments
- The facilities of the UBA are as follows:-
- Tuition fees, including registration and acceptance fees at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam
- On-campus accommodation (single occupancy of BND250.00 per month only) for the
- duration of the scholarship (for international students and locals outside of Brunei-Muara
- district).
Duration
- The award of UBA for a doctorate programme is for maximum duration of three (3) years, subjected to bi-annual reviews. Universiti Brunei Darussalam reserves the right to suspend or terminate the scholarship within the duration stated.
- If a UBA candidate is permitted by the University to extend their candidature beyond the duration of three (3) years, the candidate will be allowed to continue their studies without incurring tuition fees for the duration of the extension. However, the accommodation of the UBA will only be available until the end of the initial three (3) year duration.
Deferment
The UBA cannot be deferred.
Leave Entitlement
All UBA scholars are entitled to 21 days of leave per year. Leave must
be applied through Office of
Graduate Studies.
Leave-of-Absence
A scholar may, on medical or compassionate grounds, and with the approval of the relevant Faculty, apply for leave-of-absence from the University. The maximum period of leave-of-absence allowed is 4 semesters or 2 years in a student’s candidature. During the period of leave-of-absence, all the financial benefits will be stopped and the candidature will be at a standstill. The candidature will be reactivated at the end of the approved period.
Transfer
UBA awarded to the candidate for a programme cannot be transferred to
another programme.
Residency
- Candidates are required to be in Brunei Darussalam during the period of scholarship. Those requiring field work outside of the country will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Faculty and University, upon application.
Academic Performance
The UBA will continue as long as the applicant satisfies the academic
standards established by the Faculty and the University, continues to enrol
full-time in the authorised programme, and complies with all other conditions
necessary to remain eligible for the scholarship.
University Services
- Candidates awarded with UBA are expected to contribute in teaching / tutoring sessions or its equivalent, and any other activities of the faculty concerned when it is required. This will be subject to the approval of the Faculty Dean concerned.
Termination and Returning of Funds
- The University reserves the right to terminate the scholarship.
- The applicant is withdrawn from the programme or terminated
- The candidate is discontinued or terminated from the programme
- The registration status of the candidate is ‘inactive’
- The candidate fails to maintain the eligibility criteria
- Candidate fails to maintain satisfactory academic performance (based on results e.g.
- GPA or Supervisor’s reports)
Provision of False Information
In the event that the University discovers that a candidate has furnished false or deceptive information, the University reserves the right to terminate the candidate's entitlement to the UBA (University Benefits and Allowances). As a consequence, the candidate will be held responsible for repaying the University the entire amount of expenses incurred for the UBA. It is crucial for applicants to provide accurate and honest information throughout the application process to ensure transparency and maintain the integrity of the University's selection procedures.
Unsatisfactory Performance
- If a candidate performs unsatisfactorily in academic or related work, the University will terminate candidate’s entitlement to the UBA and the candidate will be liable to pay back to the University the total sum of expenses incurred for the UBA.
Consequences for Termination of Scholarship
- In the event of termination of scholarship, the candidate will not be entitled to any further benefits and will be liable to pay back to the University, the total sum of expenses incurred for the UBA.
Consequences for Discontinuing of Studies
In the event of discontinuation of studies, i.e. withdrawal of candidature before graduating, the candidate will not be entitled to any scholarship benefits. The candidate will be liable to pay back the total sum of expenses incurred for the UBA to the University, except for unforeseen circumstances whereby it will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
